Authorities in New England are investigating a series of eight deaths across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island since early March 2025, which have sparked public speculation about a possible serial killer. Despite the concerns, law enforcement agencies have not found evidence linking the cases and urge the public to avoid jumping to conclusions.
The most recent case involved the discovery of an adult woman’s body near a riverfront bike path in Springfield, Massachusetts, on April 22. The Springfield Police Department is treating it as an “unattended death” pending autopsy results.
Other cases include the remains of 35-year-old Paige Fannon found in Norwalk, Connecticut; human remains discovered in a suitcase near a cemetery in Groton, Connecticut; and the body of 59-year-old Denise Leary found in her New Haven home. Investigations into these deaths have so far found no evidence of foul play or connections between the cases.
Despite official statements, online communities have been actively discussing the possibility of a serial killer. A Facebook group titled “New England Serial Killer” has attracted thousands of members, sharing theories and information about the cases.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate each case individually and emphasize the importance of relying on verified information. They caution against spreading unconfirmed theories that could hinder ongoing investigations.
