She tore out her eyeballs and crushed them in her hand

In 2018, Kaylee Muthart made headlines after a meth-induced hallucination led her to tear out her own eyes. Believing she was saving the world, the then-20-year-old was left permanently blind—but also found the strength to overcome her addiction.

Now in recovery, Kaylee wears prosthetic eyes, is continuing her education, and had been working at a local restaurant—until she was recently fired for feeding a stray cat and her kittens with leftover food.

Despite the loss, she has no regrets. “I did what I believed in my heart was right,” she said. “I’d rather be blind than dependent on drugs.”

Her story is one of unimaginable pain—but also hope, redemption, and compassion.
