In a creative twist on neighborhood disputes, Etienne Constable found a unique way to comply with his homeowners association’s (HOA) directive while making a statement. After being instructed to hide his boat from view or face a $100 fine, Constable built the required six-foot fence. However, he commissioned a local artist to paint a mural of the boat on the fence, making it visible from the street once again.
The boat had been parked in his driveway for four years without issue until the HOA’s sudden enforcement. Constable’s artistic response not only adhered to the letter of the HOA’s regulations but also highlighted the sometimes arbitrary nature of such rules. The mural has since garnered attention online, with many praising Constable’s ingenuity and humor in addressing the situation.
