Nebraska Family of Four Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide on Son’s Graduation Day

A Nebraska community is reeling after a devastating tragedy on May 10, 2025, when a family of four was found dead in what authorities believe to be a murder-suicide. The incident occurred on the day their eldest son, Hudson Koch, was scheduled to graduate from high school.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Johnson Lake, where they discovered the bodies of Jeremy Koch, 42; his wife, Bailey Koch, 41; and their two sons, Hudson, 18, and Asher, 16. All four had suffered fatal knife wounds. Investigators suspect that Jeremy Koch fatally stabbed his wife and sons before taking his own life.

Bailey Koch, a special education teacher, had been open about her husband’s long-standing mental health struggles. She had previously shared concerns about Jeremy’s depression and suicidal thoughts, including a disturbing incident in March when she awoke to find him standing over her with a knife. Despite undergoing treatment, including electroconvulsive therapy, Jeremy’s condition did not improve significantly.

Just days before the tragedy, Bailey expressed cautious optimism on social media about Jeremy’s recent admission to a mental health facility and his potential attendance at Hudson’s graduation. She wrote about his efforts to manage his condition and the family’s appreciation for the support they received.

The Cozad community, where the family was well-known, has been deeply affected by the loss. Local schools have offered counseling services and opened their facilities to support grieving students and staff. Despite the tragedy, Hudson’s graduation ceremony proceeded as planned, with the community coming together to honor his memory.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Autopsies have been ordered for all four family members. The Nebraska State Patrol, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Eustis Fire & Rescue, and the Dawson County Attorney have extended their condolences to those affected by this heartbreaking event.
