Bindi Irwin, 26, is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery in New York City following a ruptured appendix. The wildlife conservationist and daughter of the late Steve Irwin was in Las Vegas for the annual Steve Irwin Gala when she experienced severe abdominal pain, leading to her hospitalization.
During the procedure at Lenox Hill Hospital, surgeons not only removed her appendix but also excised 14 new endometriosis lesions and repaired a hernia she developed after childbirth. This marks her second major surgery related to endometriosis; in 2023, Irwin had 37 lesions and a cyst removed after enduring over a decade of misdiagnosed pain.
In a video message shared from her hospital bed, Irwin expressed gratitude to her medical team, family, and supporters. She praised her brother, Robert Irwin, who stepped in to host the gala in her absence, and assured fans of her plans to attend the upcoming Brisbane gala in November.
Irwin’s openness about her health challenges has been instrumental in raising awareness about endometriosis, a condition affecting many women worldwide. Her advocacy continues to shed light on the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment for women’s health issues.
