On June 14, 2025, Ramon Diaz-Soria, 27, drowned at Georgia’s Lake Lanier after jumping from a boat during a birthday party. Though he wore a life jacket, it wasn’t secured properly, and he sank quickly. Diaz-Soria couldn’t swim, and his life jacket was later found floating. Despite rescue attempts, he never resurfaced.
Authorities resumed the search the next day using sonar and found his body in 60 feet of water. His death was ruled a drowning.
Lake Lanier, known for its dangers, has seen over 200 drownings since 1994. A GoFundMe has been launched to support his family. His sister, Abigail, called him her best friend, remembering his kindness and generosity. The tragedy highlights the importance of water safety.
